Weekend in Barcelona
Three weeks after starting work, I was sent off to Barcelona for the weekend for a 'work' conference with around 300 lawyers from all of the European offices of my firm. Barcelona is an absolutely amazing city with wide boulevards lined with palm trees, funky architecture (a lot of it care of Gaudi) and, the best thing of all, nestled right on the amazing mediterranean coast. We spent little of the weekend doing work and the trip was really a boozey weekend with my London workmates and a great opportunity to meet with the lawyers that we deal with on a daily basis on our transactions around Europe. We spent Friday night at a bar called the BaJa club - a huge bar with a massive dance floor, eighties trance/dance music, hot girls in bikinis serving the drinks and a huge deck leading out onto an amazing beach. We spent Saturday doing a bit of shopping, eating from the huge buffets served at the Diagonol Mar Hilton and on Saturday night had a formal three course dinner (cool to start off with and ending in me wondering when I had become so grown up that I have to endure being polite and professional for such long lengths of time...). Happy to say that as the night progressed, professional and politeness went out the window and we headed out to a dance club called 'Discotecque' located in the old city. The old city is exactly how you would picture Spain back in the day - cobblestoned alleys with small stone buildings and absolutely amazing. We managed to make it back to the hotel with two hours to spare before we had to get up to leave for the airport at 7.30 on Sunday morning. Back to London on Sunday afternoon meant that I got to see Grant, who had spent the weekend working, for the afternoon which was a great way to end the weekend.
