Krabi - Ko Phi Phi

Ko Phi Phi has to be one of the most amazing places in the world. We are staying at Hat Yao, Long Beach, in a bungalow about 10 feet from the water. Amazing. The weather has been fantastic and we have been too busy soaking up the rays to update our blog (sorry!). We have spent the last few days lying on the beach in hammocks, swimming and wandering around the island. The main beach of KPP, Ton Sai, is not the nicest - it has a concrete path that runs around the beachfront, with heaps of stalls and shops, and many of the resorts are built on this path. The beach is covered in long boats and when the tide is in there is no beach to speak of really. When the tide is out, you need to walk for a few hundred metres to be able to swim. It doesn't help that the tsunami swept through Ton Sai and so construction/debris is all over the place. In complete contrast, Long Beach, is fantastic. The bungalows are built in a garden which turns into beach with plenty of room when the tide is in and still fine when the tide is out. Unfortunately, the long boats cannot get to Long Beach when the tide is out which means you either have to walk to Ton Sai (30 minutes around the rocks and various beaches - nice but super hot!) or stay where you are. Hardly an issue. The resort restaurant is on the beach and serves authentic Thai for around $3-4 and is yum! The water is warm - at the moment about 30 degrees - and the sand is gorgeous. We are in heaven. To break the sunbathing monotany, we went diving around Ko Phi Phi Lay yesterday - so many fish and the coral was beautiful. The water was not as clear as we would have like as the weather was a little rough - Grant had a great day but it was not so much fun for me as I spent the entire trip vomiting over the side of the boat. We were supposed to leave today for Ko Lanta (Krabi) but love it so much here that we are staying on. We are looking forward to meeting up with our friends in Samui next week. Oh - you have all said that it is too hard to leave comments so we have made it so you no longer have to be registered - feel free to comment away!
