Fun and Games at Victoria Falls

Well, we had 4 days in Livingstone in Zambia to do all sorts of fun activities and just hang out and relax, which, while you think this may be our day to day timetable, is far from the truth. We are up early EVERY morning and have to do stressful things like pack our tent and drive 600km, seriously! So, we headed off to see the Falls (as you do) and woh, were we blown away! In high season (ie. wet) 900 million cubic metres of water falls the 110 metre drop per second along the 1.5km gorge and in the dry season, unbeknown to many people (obviously those who come to see the Falls at the inopportune time), the Falls actually dry up on the Zambian side for a wee while. Anyhow, you can just walk around the top of the Falls and see them from all different angles but what is amazing, is that the spray from the water hitting the gorge absolutely saturates you even though you are 110 metres up. It is spectacular. The Zim/Zam border runs right through the middle of the gorge and while you watch the Falls, you can also watch the dumbasses that have decided to bungee from the border bridge. Terrifying! We took a microlight flight above the Falls late one afternoon (a microlight is a couple of seats with what resembles a lawnmower stuck onto the back of it and a couple of paragliding wings) which was absolutely amazing (and unbelievably scary - especially when my pilot had to abort landing because of the wind and make a second attempt). We saw all sorts of game from the sky - elephants, crocodiles in the Zambesi and hippos - and also saw the zigzag of 7 other gorges that once were Victoria Falls and but have been broken away, There is a new crack in the falls which will apparently take close to 20,000 years to become the new Victoria Falls line. We spent one of our days on an adrenaline day which comprised of free falling 51 metres (3.5 seconds) into a 96 metre gorge on a swing and doing supermen jumps on a flying fox over the gorge. Half of our friends on the truck jumped off at Vic Falls and so we spent our last night having Kiwi burgers and drinks at Fez Bar.
